Quantum computing has become one of the hottest topics in theoretical computer science, theoretical physics, and experimental physics in the last decade, and has begun affecting the agenda of computer systems researchers as well. In this talk, I will describe the important problems whose solutions may be accelerated by quantum computing, and the impact of Moore's Law and why it drives computer systems researchers like me to work on the topic. I will also briefly introduce my own research on distributed quantum computation and quantum networks.
