Abstract :
High speed access rates have raised the performance expectancies of users and increased
traffic levels. New applications have appeared such as P2P file sharing and streaming and the
Internet is increasingly used for multimedia applications. This evolution within the current IP
architecture is changing the way we consider traffic control. New traffic management requirements
emerge with the proposed architectural innovations for the future Internet like virtualization and content
aware networking as well as the impact of anticipated technological developments in wireless
and optics
How should traffic be controlled in future networks to offer the quality of service users require? Can
we rely on current paradigms of the Internet or should radically new approaches be introduced?
How does traffic management change in a network explicitly designed for content distribution?
The workshop will highlight key issues, appraise current understanding and highlight those areas in
need of further research.
